Your Georgia LLC's first 90 days, in the right order
Approval from the Corporations Division is the start, not the finish. In Georgia the next steps are an EIN, a bank account in the LLC's name, your city or county occupation tax certificate, Georgia Tax Center registration if you sell taxable goods, and a calendar note for the January 1 to April 1 annual registration.
Day 1
Articles approved ($110)
Week 1
EIN + bank account
Weeks 2-4
Local certificate
Next spring
$60 annual registration
Heads up: we are an independent company that prepares and submits Georgia filings for owners. We are not the Secretary of State and we do not give legal advice. Every state charge passes through at the exact amount the state bills, and anyone can file directly on eCorp for no service fee.

Week one: EIN and bank
Banks in Georgia will ask for the approved Articles, the EIN confirmation letter and often the operating agreement. Get the EIN first; it is free from the IRS online or included in our Pro and Complete packages.
Weeks two to four: the local certificate
Georgia has no statewide general business license. Instead each city or county levies an occupation tax under O.C.G.A. 48-13, and the formulas differ wildly: Atlanta uses gross receipts and a $191 fee, Macon-Bibb counts employees, Roswell exempts the first $100,000 of receipts. Most offices want notarized SAVE and E-Verify affidavits.

Sales tax and payroll
Selling taxable goods or hiring employees means registering in the Georgia Tax Center with the Department of Revenue. Do it before your first sale.
Official sourceThe first April 1
An LLC formed this year files its first annual registration between January 1 and April 1 next year. It is $60, and filing on April 2 adds $25. Corporations are different: they owe an initial registration within 90 days of incorporating.

Do I need an operating agreement in Georgia?
The state does not collect one, but banks and partners often ask for it, and it is your best evidence the LLC is run as a separate company.
